Vertical Blind Parts – More Common In Vinyl Than Wood In New Products

Vinyl has been used an alternative to wood and metal since the end of the Second World War.

In the last five years however, improvements in raw material quality and manufacturing processes have fueled its rise as the window material of choice in North America, supplanting aluminum as the sales leader in 1999. Of the over fifty million new and replacement windows expected to be sold in the United States this year, twenty-seven million will be made from vinyl.

Vinyl windows have become the premium in a market that was once dominated by wood and aluminum, offering many of the same advantages, but without their shortcomings. Now for the first time, vinyl windows are available in Trinidad & Tobago manufactured exclusively by ABEL.

Long at the forefront of the local building industry, ABEL has been quick to adapt and innovate as the market dictated. Originally, a manufacturer of clay products, ABEL now boasts the widest range of building products in Caricom, including steel and aluminum windows and doors (Metpro brand) and glass curtain walls and aluminum cladding.

"A vinyl window product is the natural response to both the needs of the market, and the numerous requests of local architects over the years." Explained Glenn Castagne, Managing Director. "In a coastal application, there’s nothing that holds up as well."

ABEL will commence production of their AstraLite range of vinyl December. The product is lightweight but strong, and the vinyl (also referred to as uPVC) extrusion is totally weather resistant and will not fade, chalk or warp. The high gloss white finish will never require painting during its lifetime, with maintenance reduced to the occasional wiping with a wet cloth, soap and water.

This type of window is particularly suited to the Caribbean, as the vinyl frames and stainless steel fittings will not corrode, even with the airborne salt spray prevalent in coastal areas.

All told, AstraLite vinyl windows by ABEL are an attractive, durable, long lasting, and low maintenance alternative to more traditional materials. They are available in a wide variety of styles including sash, casement, and slider windows. They may be fitted with insect screens for people concerned with pest intrusion. And they can be combined to form a multitude of creative combinations including bay windows complete with arches and fixed lites.
